it&#8217;s important to know the signs of heatstroke and heat exhaustion while also being vigilant and knowledgeable on what to do if you or your client are experiencing the following:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<table width=\"0\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"text-align: left;\" width=\"342\">\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Heat Exhaustion<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Heat is caused by excessive loss of water and salt from the body<\/td>\n<td width=\"354\">\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Heatstroke<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Heatstroke is the <strong>most serious type<\/strong> of heat illness caused by body heat overload and has a high risk of irreversible damage to body organs and organ systems<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"342\">\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Signs and symptoms<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Heavy sweating<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Cool, moist skin<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Body temperature above 38\u00b0C<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Weak pulse<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Low blood pressure<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Tired and weak<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Nausea and vomiting<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Thirst<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Panting or breathing rapidly<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Blurred vision<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>What to do<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Move to a cool area<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Loosen or remove clothing<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Drink cool water<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Spray cool water to large areas of skin or clothing<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Call the office as soon as you are able to <em><u>or<\/u><\/em> ask someone to call on your behalf to report the situation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Get medical help right away if<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Vomiting<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Symptoms worsen<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Symptoms last longer than 1-hour<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<\/td>\n<td width=\"354\">\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Signs and symptoms<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">High body temperature, greater than 40\u00b0C<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">A fast pulse<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Headache or dizziness<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Passing out<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Weakness, confusion, or acting strangely<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Hot, dry, red skin or profusely sweating<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>What to do<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>This is a medical emergency:<\/strong> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Call 911<\/strong> <strong>immediately<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Call the office as soon as you are able to <em><u>or<\/u><\/em> ask someone to call on your behalf to report the situation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>While waiting for help to arrive<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Move to a cool area<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Loosen tight clothing, remove padding from chest<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Do not dry the skin<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Aggressive Cooling Methods<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Immerse body in cool water<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Immerse forearms in cool water<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Pour cool water over chest<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Fan skin if possible<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Have a cool drink, if alert and able<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td colspan=\"2\" width=\"696\">\n<h4><strong>Preventing Heat-Related Emergencies<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Drink plenty of cool fluids \u2014 this is the most important step you can take.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Try to avoid being outside when the sun is at its peak between 10am &#8211; 4pm.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Know the humidex rating \u2014 it combines the temperature and humidity to indicate how hot, humid weather feels to the average person.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Wear light, loose clothing to let air circulate and heat escape and always wear a hat.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Apply sunscreen (with SPF 15 or higher) as sunburned skin reduces the body\u2019s ability to cool itself.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Slow down your activities as it gets hotter and don\u2019t work, exercise, for too long at a time.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Take a lot of breaks in a cool or shady area to let your body cool off.
