Appointments must be booked through our vendor, First Aid Care, and can be booked by clicking the button below or by calling 905-272-9214<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Important reminders \u2013 please read:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Please arrive at the training session 15 minutes before the class begins.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Gloves and surgical mask will be required for the duration of the class.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">After you have booked your appointment, please speak to your Service Coordinator if you need any scheduling arrangements and have clients that you will need to be booked off from to attend the CPR training. Please try to book a date\/time where you do not have client visits scheduled.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Your schedule will be blocked as \u2018unavailable\u2019 for you to attend the session. You do not need to use your phone to sign into the training.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">You will be paid a total of 4 hours for the training \u2013 this will be added to your schedule 1-2 weeks after the session has been completed and you will receive payment. The code will appear on your paystub as \u2018Miscellaneous\u2019<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">You may not be able to access the login link via the PSW mobile phones, and you may need to access the link using your personal phone or computer.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">All bookings\/cancellations must be managed through the online portal. The best way to prevent the flu is to get a vaccination against the virus. The flu vaccine is different every year, so getting the flu shot annually is important. Flu shots are anticipated to be available starting in the next few weeks. \u00a0Other best practices include avoiding close contact with people who are sick and avoiding others when you yourself are sick, including staying home from school or work. During flu season it is also important to practice good hand hygiene by washing hands frequently and avoiding touching your eyes, nose, or mouth. Covering your mouth and nose with a tissue when sneezing or coughing can also help prevent the spread of germs. Practicing other good health habits like cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched surfaces, especially when someone is ill, and getting plenty of sleep, drinking lots of fluids, eating nutritious food and managing stress can also help protect and prevent against getting sick.<\/p>\n[\/vc_column_text][divider line_type=&#8221;Full Width Line&#8221; Our workers pay close attention to how our clients act, look, and cope to identify any changes from the client\u2019s baseline. Sometimes these changes are very subtle and may take place gradually over time.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">This was the case for a client that <strong>PSW Jadeen Russell<\/strong> was providing care for early in August. Jadeen noticed small changes: the client seemed to be more confused and generally unwell. Jadeen reported these concerns to the client\u2019s visiting nurse who was in the home at the time and reported to Circle of Care. The visiting nurse performed an assessment immediately and confirmed the client required further care. The client was transferred to the hospital for assessment.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Jadeen\u2019s prompt response and keen awareness for the client\u2019s needs and overall health helped to ensure that the client received the support they needed as quickly as possible. Why do I have back-to-back appointments?\u00a0 (E.g. 10-11 then 11-11:45).<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Back-to-back visits should only be scheduled if it you are at a cluster or interval site.\u00a0 Otherwise, your Service Coordinator should be allowing for enough travel time between your visits for clients living in the community.\u00a0 If you have issues with your schedule, or the travel time between clients, please contact your Service Coordinator to update your schedule.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>How do we (PSWs) educate our clients that PSWs are not cleaning ladies?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The PSW support service at Circle of Care is designed to help clients with the personal activities of daily living, such as bathing, toileting, dressing, meal prep and instrumental activities of daily living such as light cleaning in the commonly used areas of a client\u2019s home and client\u2019s laundry. If you have a client who is asking you to perform extensive cleaning in their homes, advise the client that your duty is to follow the care plan which was designed by your Supervisor (CSS) or Case Manager (CM). Take a look at the care plan to see which duties are listed for the visit and inform client of those tasks you have been assigned to perform. If your client continues to insist on additional cleaning, let the client know that you will only be able to assist with additional duties that are safe and within your scope of practice, but you must also inform the office of the modifications made to your duties as a result of client\u2019s request. <u>It is your responsibility to connect with your CSS to inform them of clients who often ask you to perform tasks that are not in the client\u2019s care plan<\/u>. The client\u2019s Supervisor or Case Manager will then follow up with client to discuss and adjust care plan and\/or remind the client\/family of the limitations of the PSW role as needed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>If we (PSWs) have a 4 hour visit with a Holocaust client where the care plan is not specified, do we need to clean for 4 hours when the client instructs us to do so?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">There are some cases where a care plan may not be available for a particular client and this is typically due to the client being new to service, and having not yet received a visit from the CSS or the Case Manager. When there is no care plan, PSWs should notify the office of this so that the appropriate CSS or Case Manager can be made aware. If your client is giving instructions on how to assist them while there is no care plan available, you can perform tasks that are safe and within your PSW scope of practice. Be sure to explain to your client that you can assist based on their request until your Supervisor has had a chance to discuss and develop a care plan with the client.\u00a0 <u>Please keep in mind the limitations of your role and do not perform tasks that are beyond your scope (such as extensive housekeeping), to ensure that the client does not expect these tasks in the future<\/u>.
