As we transition into the winter season and prepare for the snowy and icy weather associated with the months ahead, please consider the tips below for staying safe in the community:<\/p>\n

Winter Safety Tips<\/strong><\/h3>\n

  1. Install winter tires on your vehicle and take your car for a checking\/tune up before winter<\/li>\n
  2. Pack emergency kits to keep in your home and car – emergency kits should include flashlights and extra batteries, batter-operated radio, food, water, blankets<\/li>\n
  3. Make sure your phone is fully charged before you leave the house and your car has at least half a tank of gas<\/li>\n
  4. Check weather repots regularly. Environment Canada issues special alerts to notify Canadians in affected areas<\/li>\n
  5. Wear proper winter clothing \u2013 including shoes with good traction for snow and ice to prevent slipping<\/li>\n
  6. Allow for extra travel time to avoid rushing \u2013 if you are running late for any client visits, please make sure to not rush and call the office to let us know<\/li>\n
  7. Avoid prolonged outdoor exposure<\/li>\n
  8. Avoid strenuous activities. Overexerting yourself in the cold by shoveling snow or pushing a car can actually put a strain on your heart. Know your limits and make sure to respect them.<\/li>\n
  9. Be prepared for winter ailments \u2013 keep your medicine cabinet while stocked with medicine for cold and flu symptoms<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Winter Driving Tips<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    1. \u00a0Drive smoothly and slowly \u2013 don\u2019t make abrupt turns or stops, allow for extra travel time so you don\u2019t have to rush<\/li>\n
    2. Keep a safe distance \u2013\u00a0 don\u2019t tailgate; stopping takes much longer on snow and icy roads<\/li>\n
    3. Brake before making turns<\/li>\n
    4. See and be seen – Clear your car of ice and snow before leaving and use your car lights<\/li>\n
    5. Make sure you keep an ice scraper and snow brush in your car<\/li>\n
    6. Plan ahead \u2013 avoid traveling in severe weather as much as possible<\/li>\n
    7. Stay on main roads that are more likely to be better maintained<\/li>\n
    8. Pay attention \u2013 avoid distracted driving, be alert, well-rested, and sober behind the wheel<\/li>\n
    9. Avoid using cruise control<\/li>\n
    10. Keep a bag of salt, sand, or kitty litter to help you get traction if your car gets stuck<\/li>\n
    11. Do not<\/strong> hit the brakes when skidding on ice<\/li>\n
    12. Be patient and pass other cars only when it is safe to do so.<\/li>\n
    13. Keep a safe distance back from snow plows, and salt\/sand\/anti-icing trucks.<\/li>\n
    14. Never pass a snow plow due to the whiteout conditions and ridge of snow created by the plow.<\/li>\n

      4. Make eye contact with approaching drivers and cyclists before crossing the road<\/li>\n
