In addition to her important work as a frontline staff member, she has assisted with many projects and events over the years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been an honour and a privilege to work for this company as a PSW,\u201d says Evelyn. \u201cI\u2019ve done my best to take care of and support thousands of people in need. Focus on what they are saying and feeling instead.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Don\u2019t put too much pressure on yourself to get it right. <\/strong>Remember, you are not there to fix the other person or solve their problem. You just need to be present and let them know that you want to understand.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Avoid telling the other person how to feel or dismissing their feelings.<\/strong> Regardless of intentions, comments like \u201cDon\u2019t be sad\u201d or \u201cStop worrying, it\u2019s not that bad\u201d can make someone feel like you aren\u2019t taking their pain seriously.<\/li>\n<li><strong>When in doubt, try rephrasing instead. <\/strong>Restating what you heard in your own words shows the other person that you\u2019re listening and offers them an opportunity to elaborate or correct misunderstandings.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Don\u2019t underestimate the power of just listening. <\/strong>By offering someone an attentive ear and allowing them to share their feelings, you are already helping.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>The art of listening is like any art\u2014it requires practice and commitment. The more you listen, the more comfortable you will become. <\/strong>People will know when you\u2019re truly listening because they\u2019ll feel it.
