During the month of June, people across the country mark National Indigenous History Month in recognition of the rights, histories and extraordinary achievements of Indigenous peoples in Canada.
First Nations, Inuit and Métis people have strong relationship with this land that extends back tens of thousands of years – before any other groups came into Canada. Their own unique culture, traditions, lifestyles and strength help to shape Canada as a place we all call home today. We appreciate Indigenous groups sharing the land with us and celebrate their heritage and achievements. At the same time, we are proud of how diverse and welcoming the place we are living in is.
