Why I Got Vaccinated
This summer, we shared stories from our Personal Support Workers and Homemakers in a series called Why I Got Vaccinated. If you missed any of their stories, here are their answers to the question of why they decided to get vaccinated against COVID-19.
“I got the vaccine because I want to make my clients happy and safe. It’s not just for me, but for my clients. I provide personal care, like helping my clients with their showers and cleaning. Some of my clients want me to be closer, but can’t because I want to protect them. With the vaccine, it’ll help provide comfort in knowing I’m vaccinated.” – J. Dimatulac
“We have to do it for everyone. It’s not just for ourselves, but for the sake of everyone else. Together, we’re a society, and we have to do what’s best for us all.” – Bhevell V.
“I got vaccinated to protect myself, my family, others, and to help stop the spread of COVID-19. Each and every person that gets vaccinated makes a difference for yourself and for the other people who surround us daily – it’s for their safety as much as it is for ours. I want to be able to smile at people without a mask.” – Sheryll.
“The benefits of getting the vaccine outweigh the risks. I got vaccinated because we’re currently in a pandemic, and wanted to be as healthy and safe as possible. With my role as a healthcare worker in the community, I could have been exposed to COVID-19 from my clients, or there was a chance I could have unknowingly passed the virus on to them.” – Ayrin.
“I work in a field where I’m with vulnerable people. If I don’t take care of myself, then how can I take care of them? If I’m not healthy, then I can’t help my clients, I can’t help others because I may infect them. I would not be comfortable with myself if I were to do that to them.” – Edith.
Circle of Care is proud to highlight that over 75% of our PSWs have received their first dose and over 60% have received their second dose.
If you have not yet received your COVID-19 vaccine, and wish to do so (either first or second dose) please refer to the Ontario government website for information how to book your vaccine. Please also note that most places that offer vaccines are accepting walk-ins. However, you should check ahead of time whether your vaccine location requires appointments or not.
Thank you to our staff who chose to be vaccinated for the safety of others, and thank you to those who shared your story on why you got vaccinated. We would like to remind all staff that at this point in time, personal protective equipment is still required for all client visits, whether or not you and your clients have been vaccinated. Please remember to remain careful in your work and take action when necessary to protect your health along with our clients.
