HSSP Team Remembers Clients Who Have Passed Away
Recently, our Holocaust Survivor Services department held a virtual memorial for the 119 Holocaust Survivor clients of ours who passed away in 2021.
“We felt that we needed a way to come together to say goodbye to these special people,” said Yana Zveiris, HSSP Practice Lead. “We grow close to them and form connections as we help them through their final years of life. Holding a memorial is our way of honouring their lives and remembering them.”
This is the second year that the team has held a memorial. During the memorial, our Case Managers reflected on the lives and legacies of the clients they lost, and shared stories and fond memories of their interactions together.
“The Case Managers are supporting our clients through very difficult times, including end of life,” said Rachel Quinby, HSSP Program Coordinator, “It’s meaningful for us to come together and remember our clients, and to be able to share stories of the amazing work of our Case Managers in the lives of these clients.”

Champions of Care
Congratulations to this week’s Champions of Care nominees:
- “I want to express my appreciation to PSW Rachel Shalmieva, Irene Shapiro, and Alla Iularji. My grandfather absolutely loved Rachel, and described in detail how wonderful their first meeting with her was. My grandma was also so happy to spend time with her! I cannot overstate how meaningful this is, and how nervous I was that this would be a negative first experience. But, it was a huge relief to hear that they found someone so compatible and “lovely” – as they would describe Rachel. Thank you very much to Irene and Alla again for all your help in coordinating this, moving this along quickly, and the time you spent with him on the phone and supported him through the applicaion. Thank you for finding such a great and compatible PSW to help them! I cannot express how much of a life-changing moment you’ve created to our family.” – Client’s grandson.
- “Edie Weisbrod constantly keeps demonstrating excellence and collaboration. She is always proactive and often takes extra steps to let coordinators maintain high efficiency and productivity.” – Anna Vorobyovsky
- “I’d like to nominate my colleague PSW Rowena Cereza for the Champions of Care awards. Rowena helps her fellow PSW coworkers in many ways, especially if we ask her questions about things we don’t know or don’t understand. She’s always willing to help us.” – PSW Eloisa Vicente
