Ethics

As providers of care and services, we are responsible for acting professionally and in a client-centred manner; upholding the dignity and honour of our clients; and practicing in accordance with ethical principles. However, in the course of our day-to-day dealings with clients and families, it is not uncommon to be faced with ethical and moral dilemmas, including issues related to confidentiality, informed consent, relationships, etc.
Circle of Care has many strategies and tools in place to support the ethical decision making process including:

Ethical Framework

An Ethical Framework is a set of principles used to work through an ethical issue, for both clinical and business decision-making. Using this standard and fair approach allows for more effective communication and understanding among all parties involved.

Collaborative Case Reviews

Collaborative Case Reviews take place as needed to debrief on the outcomes of recent ethical dilemmas and support future decision-making. Case Reviews support with identifying opportunities for improvements in the decision making process.

Ethics Committee

Circle of Care’s Ethics Committee has recently relaunched with the goal of reviewing our existing Ethical Framework and increasing its utilization. The Committee will work to develop resources and education for target groups. Stay tuned for updates from the Committee.
