This is a message to all Personal Support Workers and Homemakers from your Joint Health and Safety Committee.

All employees are reminded of some important safety tips for travelling within the community for reducing the risk of illness/injury as a result from Motor Vehicle Accidents. We have noticed an increasing trend of Motor Vehicle Accidents and want to keep you informed on best practices for remaining safe as a pedestrian.

  • Improve your visibility: with the changing seasons – days are becoming darker. We would recommend that when it is dark outside you wear bright and reflective clothing so that motorists can see you.
  • Cross at designated cross walks:  only cross streets at designated cross sites (intersections with stop lights and stop signs).
  • Be aware of your surroundings: we recommend that you wait to make eye contact with drivers and cross when they see you. You could also indicate with your hand that you are looking to cross. Look both ways before you cross the street.
