Our Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) has prepared the following health and safety tips for ensuring safe travel in the community. We want to stress the importance of being aware of your surroundings (especially at night time), to ensure you are traveling safety between client homes. We have observed an increase of injuries and/or near misses involving pedestrians and motor vehicles.
Please review these important health and safety tips that you should be following as a pedestrian:
- Wear bright colours when travelling outdoors and at night time to ensure you are visible to drivers
- When using pedestrian cross walks or when crossing the street, make eye contact with drivers before crossing the street
- Wear reflexive gear to make yourself more visible to drivers
- Use your flashlight app on your mobile phone to make yourself visible to drivers when using cross walks
As a health and safety initiative, our JHSC has ordered reflective arm bands to promote increased safety in the community. Pick up one of these arm bands the next time you are at our head office!
