At the end of the workday, it may be tempting to turn on your TV and watch the news. But the 24/7 news cycle can be exhausting, especially now when things are changing quickly.
Here are five ways to take your mind off the news:
- Spend time outside to clear your head – As little as 15 to 20 minutes outdoors can help you feel happier and more relaxed. Just because we’re practicing social distancing doesn’t mean we can’t go outside.
- Catch up by phone with someone you haven’t talked to in a while. Plan ahead and put it on your calendar.
- Use exercise to take your mind off your worries. Exercise can be a great distraction. There are many great exercise programs that you can access on YouTube.
- Pursue a hobby or interest. Look for a new pursuit that’s so absorbing you won’t miss the news. Almost any fresh and fun activity can be invigorating – reading, cooking, learning to play a musical instrument, or speak another language.
- Focus on self-care. Give yourself the luxury of some time doing only what you want to do. Put your feet up, make popcorn and watch a favourite movie.
