The TTC has established a COVID-19 case update page to keep TTC riders up to date on the number of TTC employees who have tested positive and measures they have in place to protect their employees and customers.
Bus boarding and payment changes
Customers must board and exit the bus from the rear doors only, except those who require the kneeling ramp to be deployed. The TTC is no longer accepting cash, TTC tickets or tokens on buses at this time. If you do not have a PRESTO card or ticket, you will not be denied service and the TTC asks that you pay at your first opportunity, like at a station or on a streetcar if possible. As of March 18, 2020 the TTC stopped handing paper transfers out to customers on buses.
Physical distancing reminder
It is important to maintain physical distance from each other and the operator (6 feet or 2 metres) even while on transit. The TTC asks that if a bus or streetcar is crowded, please wait for the next one.
Additional cleaning and disinfecting methods
Since January, the TTC has been performing significant additional cleaning and disinfection of all public places with a focus on touch and grab points, such as buttons, railings, handles and straps.
Every station, bus, streetcar, Wheel-Trans vehicle and train is receiving extra attention.
The TTC takes the health and safety of its employees and customers very seriously and is in daily communication with Toronto Public Health. At this time, the direction is that no additional measures are required. The TTC continues to be a safe method of travel.
Why are some TTC employees wearing masks? Does that mean the system is unsafe?
Some employees may be wearing masks as a result of a new policy that was put in place on March 19, 2020, allowing anyone who would like to, to wear a mask. This doesn’t mean they are sick or that the system is unsafe. The TTC asks that you please continue to treat their employees and your fellow commuters with respect during your journey.
