Exercise can often be the first thing to go when our schedules get busy or during difficult times, but it has many benefits that you don’t want to miss out including stress reduction, increased energy levels, increased mental health and lower rates of heart disease and other medical problems.

As we head into the warmer months and are able to spend more time outdoors, now is a great time to revisit your exercise routine and finding ways to build more exercise into your life:

  • Take short walking breaks when you can throughout the day. Walking for as little as 15 minutes per day can make a big difference in how you feel. Try going for a walk on your lunch break or when running errands parking your car father away from the grocery store.
  • Get exercise while you are watching television. Hand weights are great to use while you are sitting down watching TV.
  • Turn family time into exercise time. Spend family time together exploring a local park, going for a bike ride or walking around the neighbourhood.
  • Stretch when you first wake up for the day. Taking a few minutes to stretch out your muscles when you first wake up can help build flexibility and energize your body.
