Why I Got Vaccinated: Bhevell’s Story
This summer, we’re sharing a series called Why I Got Vaccinated, highlighting the stories of Circle of Care Personal Support Workers and Homemakers who have been vaccinated. Today, we’re sharing Bhevell V’s story. Bhevell received her first dose in April and is receiving her second dose soon.
How did you feel about getting the COVID vaccine?
I didn’t know if I was allowed to get the vaccine because I have really bad allergies. I was worried, so I went to my doctor to ask for their opinion. My doctor told me I was okay to take the vaccine.
Why did you decide to get vaccinated?
You know, we have to do it for everyone. It’s not just for ourselves, but for the sake of everyone else. Together, we’re a society, and we have to do what’s best for us all.
Did you experience any side effects from your vaccination?
Yes, I had some side effects from the vaccine. But I was diagnosed as diabetic recently and just started to take my medication at the same time, so perhaps my side effects came from those medications. During my first week I had a swollen shoulder, the third week I had a few bruises on my left side, and the fourth week I had a very bad headache with a runny nose.
After about a month I felt so much better. Even though I had some side effects, I feel much safer because I got the vaccine.
What are you looking forward to now that you’ve been vaccinated?
I’m looking forward to being able to get back out in the world! And being able to go to work with more peace of mind.
