Why I Got Vaccinated: Sheryll A.’s Story
This summer, we’re sharing a series called Why I Got Vaccinated, highlighting the stories of Circle of Care Personal Support Workers and Homemakers who have been vaccinated. Today, we’re sharing the Sheryll A.’s story. Sheryll received her first dose in February and just recently received her second dose.
How did you feel about getting the COVID vaccine?
I was a bit worried, actually. There was a lot of information in the news and social media about the side effects of the vaccine, and some of them were quite bad. I was nervous about what side effects I might get.
Why did you decide to get vaccinated?
I got vaccinated to protect myself, my family, others, and to help stop the spread of COVID-19. Each and every person that gets vaccinated makes a difference for yourself and for the other people who surround us daily – it’s for their safety as much as it is for ours.
How did you feel after being vaccinated?
In terms of the side effects, I experienced mild pain on my left arm during my first dose. On my second dose I experienced the same pain in my arm and a headache. Now that I’m vaccinated, I feel much safer and less worried.
What are you looking forward to now that you’ve been vaccinated?
As the province opens back up again, I’m most excited to visit my family and friends in person (no more computer screens!). I’m excited to just go to the grocery store without having to make a thorough plan, without having to take precautions. I want to be able to smile at people without a mask.
