Share Your Story: PSW Day 2022

This day is all about highlighting you along with the important work you do for older adults to help them live independently. To help bring this to light we’re asking you to share your story as a PSW by answering the following question:

  • What led you to the path of becoming a PSW; was it your passion for helping others or a particular incident? And what motivates you to stay and continue to support older adults?

To share your story, email Pooja at psharma@circleofcare.com before May 12. We also ask that you send a photo of yourself so that we can share it alongside your PSW story. Regarding the photo, please ensure it’s in good lighting, a medium shot (from the waist up), and high-resolution.

Happy National Nursing Week!

This week (May 9-15) is National Nursing Week! This is the time to celebrate nurses around us for all the hard work and dedication they commit to every day. This year’s theme is #WeAnswerTheCall, highlighting the many roles nurses have in our healthcare system.

At Circle of Care, we have many RNs and RPNs on our staff, working in roles to support older adults as Client Service Supervisors (CSSs), Holocaust Case Managers, and in various roles of management. They are humble, compassionate, and strong individuals who often go above and beyond the call of duty, and we are grateful to have them as part of our Circle of Care team!

Champions of Care Nominations

Congratulations to this week’s Champions of Care nominees:

  • CSS Marina Dalgetty and PSW Trudy-Ann Mair arrived to a client’s home for a joint home visit. When they arrived, the client did not answer the door. Marina felt there was something wrong and began to search the parking lot and around the building to see if the client had left the home. When the client was not found, Marina asked the superintendent of the building to help open the door. The client could be heard asking everyone to leave and saying he wants to sleep, but Marina felt that the client was not safe. Marina and Trudy-Ann persisted and were able to get into the client’s home, where they found him with a significant head injury. Marina and Trudy-Ann called 911 and provided emergency first aid to the client, while also tidying his apartment to make room for the paramedics. Marina prepared to perform CPR, but thankfully the fire department and paramedics arrived before this was needed. Marina and Trudy-Ann cleaned the client’s apartment before having the superintendent lock the client’s door. Not only did Marina respond quickly to an emergency situation, but she also stayed after the visit to assist Trudy-Ann with cleaning the client’s apartment. The way Marina handled the situation is a testament to her strong leadership and clinical skills. Thank you Marina and Trudy-Ann for demonstrating excellence in care.” – Emma Vigil
  • “Recently a client’s regular worker was off and a replacement worker was sent. The replacement worker was not as familiar with the client’s preferences, and in the end, the client’s son was very upset. When the situation escalated, Anna Kornits, our Manager of Home Services and Private Care, reached out to the son directly. Anna spent time actively listening to and validating the son’s concerns. Anna was able to de-escalate the situation after speaking to the son for an extended period of time. Anna demonstrated accountability by regaining the son’s trust and personally ensuring that his mother’s next visit went according to plan. Because of Anna’s efforts and strong de-escalation skills, she was able to completely resolve a difficult situation and rebuild the relationship between the client’s son and Circle of Care.
