Reminder for PSWs about City Events in June & July (& Measles Awareness)

Toronto will host several large events from June 11 to July 19, including FIFA World Cup matches, Pride Toronto, and festivals.

These events will affect many areas, especially:

  • Roncesvalles Avenue (west) to Church Street (east)
  • Lakeshore Blvd. to Queen Street

If you have clients in these areas, your CSS will contact you if there are any specific instructions or adjustments needed.

For all staff, expect busy transit and traffic delays across the city.

Transit and Communication

  • The TTC may be delayed and there may be road closures. Check for updates here.
  • Leave extra travel time. Do not rush – your safety comes first. We will let our clients know to expect delays.
  • Wear your staff badge at all times
  • Keep your cell phone ON and with you

Health & Safety

Large crowds increase the spread of illness. Clean your hands often and use PPE as needed.

Public Health Ontario has advised that measles risk may increase during this time because of more international visitors.

At every visit, you already check for:

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • New rash

New symptom to watch for:

  • Small blue-white spots inside the mouth

What to Do if You Suspect Measles

If a client has:

  • Fever + cough AND
  • Blue-white spots in the mouth OR Red rash starting on the face and spreading down

Treat as possible measles:

  • Put on full PPE:
    • Gloves
    • Gown
    • Eye protection
    • N95 respirator
  • Make sure you always bring enough PPE to every visit
  • Report to the office right away so an alert can be added in EasyCare

Thank you for your hard work during this busy time. We appreciate your care and flexibility. If you need help, please contact your CSS.
