Staff and Volunteers Pitch In to Deliver Fresh Produce Boxes to Clients in Need

On Sunday June 7, Circle of Care staff and volunteers came together to deliver boxes of fresh fruits and vegetables from FoodShare to some of our most vulnerable clients.

Our clients were thrilled to receive the food. Here’s some of the messages we received from our clients:

  • “Yesterday I got my box with food from FoodShare. It’s fresh delicious, and abundant. The young lady volunteer came with her gloves and face mask and everything was just perfect. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Thank you Lisa and your group of volunteers!” – Anna G.
  • “I received a beautiful box of vegetables. Each one was just perfect, and hand-picked. And I want to thank you very much. It’s much appreciated and it will be very much enjoyed.” – Annette N.
  • “Sincere thanks to FoodShare, to the staff at Circle of Care, and to my Case Manager Alla for your attention and care!” – Aharon S.
  • “We used the onions and spinach in the box to make fried patties. Thanks so much, Circle of Care!” – Murray & Joni S.

Thank you to Lisa Rae for doing an outstanding job recruiting volunteers for this event – we had a total of 56 volunteers, and a number of them came back to do extra routes at the end of the morning!

A big shout out to the entire planning group for organizing this day (Lisa, Maria, Alison, Sonia and Josi), and to all the Case Managers, Client Services Supervisors and Social Workers who provided client names.

We will be holding a second delivery event with FoodShare on June 28th. Between the two days, we will deliver over 500+ boxes to our isolated clients in need. These special deliveries were made possible thanks to a financial grant from the Ontario Community Support Association (OCSA).

“Happy Calls” Program Reaching Isolated Clients

A new program through Volunteer Resources is reaching out to socially isolated seniors through music and conversation.

The new “Happy Calls” program has connected 25 of our Let’s Get Together clients with members of Smile Theatre. The 15-25 minute phone calls feature a one-on-one chat followed by a sing-along.

“Thank you for sending the lovely singers to me,” said Sheila, one of our clients. “I really appreciated their call, what a nice way to brighten my day.”

Smile Theatre is a registered charity that exists to enrich the lives of seniors by presenting meaningful, well-crafted, professional performances.
