Champions of Care

Congratulations to this week’s Champions of Care nominees:

  • “My iRide driver, John Casalini is a wonderful person! He was very caring, and I’m very pleased with the way he served me.” – Client
  • “I’m so grateful for PSW Rita Adhikari‘s involvement in my mother’s life. Rita is able to convince my mother to comply with her plan of care when she doesn’t want to receive care from me. I don’t know what I would do if we didn’t have Rita in our lives. My mom loves her so much and treats her like a family member. They’re like mother and daughter. It is so comforting to know that she is going to come to the house and care for her. Thank you so much for bringing her into our lives!” – Client’s son

Thank you from a Caregiver Club member

“I would like to take this opportunity to say that your program has been very very beneficial for me. Although I was unable to attend events, I felt supported by your organization in the newsletters and phone calls you sent, along with the responsiveness and helpfulness of your suggestions. Caring for my husband during this end of life stage has been difficult. He has advanced cancer, a feeding tube, and could not be left alone.

I am 65, and needed new orthotics because of the increased knee and foot problems, caused by going up and down stairs more often as I cared for him. I was in a lot of pain. But, your gift covered my new orthotics, and that meant that I was able to walk with much less pain. It would have been difficult to afford the orthotics because I am only able to work very few hours, so my income has been very low.

I hope that your program will continue. I was thrilled to find the gift basket at my door. That kind of thing is so thoughtful and has made me feel lucky and blessed in the midst of the struggles.”

– Caroline

Keep Portion Size in Mind When Planning Meals

When planning meals, portion size is important for diabetes management and prevention. Canada’s Food Guide suggests that you fill half of your plate with vegetables and fruits. People living with diabetes should choose more vegetables compared to fruit, as vegetables have less sugar. The other half of your plate should be divided between protein and whole grains.
